Mother Mabel Joins the Farm (video)

Farrowing on-farm means less stress for the pigs.

We are celebrating the arrival of Mother Mabel and Papa Benjamin! They are both proven, experienced, gentle parents from a farm with healthy pasture, woodland paddocks, and family farmers that nurtured their health and sweet personalities.

Cayuta Sun Farm is exploring Animal Welfare Approved certification. This may require all animals to be born on the farm. So Mabel (who is already expecting) will farrow the first pigs to spend their whole lives on our land. The video shows Mabel with five of her piglets that also joined us last week.

Certified Animal Welfare Approved label guarantees animals are raised outdoors on pasture or land covered with vegetation suitable for grazing or foraging by farm animals for their entire lives on an independent farm using truly sustainable, high-welfare farming practices.

Find Cayuta Sun Farm at Winter Farmers Markets.

On Saturdays, January through March, you can find our woodland-pastured Berkshire breed pork and grass-pastured chicken. The following schedule shows where and when.

This calendar and our Facebook page will reflect any last-minute changes to the schedule.

We will be back every weekend to the Ithaca Farmers Market at Steamboat Landing from April to December and the Thursday evening Montour Falls Market running May to October.

Good News for Our Ithaca Customers

slideshowphoto-copy

Cayuta Sun Farm will be vending on most Saturdays at the Ithaca Farmers Market.

Last year the farm sold shiitakes, chicken and pork on Sundays at the Market and will continue to do so. Now the farm has been granted full membership in the market so, with few exceptions, we’ll be there on both weekend market days.

Our location in the pavilion will change week-to-week so look for our yellow sign or check the vendors list posted on the door of the market office.
